... making my mum a christmas present.

The deal was this, my luverly sister would buy the material, and I would make some trousers. Four pieces to cut, four seams, a bit of hemming, some faffing around with a waistband. Piece of piss.

Somewhere along the way, it mutated into a tunic top. This is significantly more complex. I have bought a pattern. I have sorted out the machines tension, with help from the bint. I have cut the five pieces, one of which was a damn weird shape. I have spent an hour trying to work out which side of the pattern the two weird neck bits were supposed to go on. I have eventually worked it all out. I have out darts in something for the first time ever.

Now I have a completed tunic. Except that a) it seems like one dart is slightly twisted to me, and b) it doesn't have any sleeves on it.

I have made the sleeves (and hemmed them nicely), but due to the vagaries of seam allowance on curves as opposed to straight sections, the top of the sleeves is larger than the arm holes. I think the answer to this is to do a medieval style folding sequence - with the excess fabric folding over flat to the top fold underneath in a series of ripples - like on my doublet. I'm just not certain how good that will look.

Damn it all, it will probably turn out alright, but it would have been nice to make something polished (in a non-literal sense) and perfect for my mum.
