What do you need for a wedding? Not your own, someone else's?
Well, obviously you need a dress. I have a selection available, but I don't know which to wear, so I leave it.
It's a public occasion, so I need a mask. I've three that are good. Red and gold, red and black, or gold and black. If I wear the gold one I need a black dress, and you don't wear black to a wedding. The red and gold one is pretty but doesn't go with anything, so I get the red and black one out.
That decides my dress. A red dress, with black accessories. I check the dress and find it needs fixing. I chuck it onto the chair in the lounge, and dig out my minimal sewing kit for the repair.
Then you need a hat. This is A Rule. I have black hats that will do, but I fancy something more imposing. I remember Charlene (not her real name) from the club has some headdresses in red and black. I ask her about them. If they don't suit or she doesn't come through I can always go back to the hat.
I start digging out the accessories. A fairly mobile corset is in order. I pick one I can fight in and hide knives under. Long gloves are also part of this look, as is something on the shoulders. I have a little fake-fur cape and a little shoulder ruff thing. The cape is more covering.
I check the knives under the corset. The iron one fits, as does the steel, but the main gauche (it's an extra-defensive dagger with wide quillons) just doesn't go. It's not strictly necessary. I take the little cape out and realise I can hide four throwing knives under it. I chuck that in the sewing pile too, along with the knives and their existing leather sheathes. When I made those I made loops in spare leather at the top and bottom, so you can sew them onto anything with just four sets of stitches.
I check the blades, and remember it's time to make more poison. I know far more now, I'll do a better job. But it's lab work, and I'm busy with the hungry grass problem. That's important, and this wedding shouldn't be dangerous. If we survive, I'll do some new for the encounter with Rose. She's dangerous enough we might need it.
I shiver as I realise the corset has a rose design on it. Better not. I remove it and put a plain black one on the pile.
Shoes are always a problem. Happily it's a wedding in the hedge - the hobs won't know any better, so I can wear long boots and hide the main gauche in them.
Then I remember that after the wedding we need to come back to the real world, and that whatever I carry has to be concealed well enough to avoid the prying eyes of bouncers. Better just take the two thin knives then, and hide the throwing daggers in the long boots. I can poison them anyway, as long as I remember to remove it before leaving the hedge.
