This morning I was woken by the radio. Lying there in a half-doze, I heard Geoff Hoon "apologise" for that thing where he offered to use political influence to harm british firms on behalf of US firms any fucker that would pay him.

His apology can be paraphrased as "I'm sorry I got caught".

Nice.

He's a bit, what's the word? Quiet and obfuscatory. But I heard what he was saying, and it sounded an awful lot like the Dead Ringers "Hand of Evil" sketch: "We're nice rally. Please ignore all htose times we were mean. We've changed. Look - The Queen of England!".
