It's a little depressing...

So, we don't get a better voting system (thanks, all the fucking idiots who voted against giving themselves more power), and then XKCD comes out and says something true but remarkably depressing (the 65 years one).

Still, for me they kind of cancel out. I mean, it's still a little depressing to think the human race is too crap to get out there. But if we're too stupid collectively to vote for better voting systems, then frankly I'm not convinced we deserve to be out there.

Bill Hicks said he was annoyed by people who are enthusiastic about humanity. I used not to feel the same way.

Also, as I watched the Dr Who with pirates, I was left thinking that the Siren must be a True Fae. "Can only take those who are injured" seems like a frailty to me, and the emerging from reflections bit, plus the unearthly and hypnotic singing... well, yes. Fae.

I don't think it's an awful thing that people would rather kick an unpopular politician in the teeth than tinker with the electoral system. I voted for AV myself, but the hope that a 'No' vote would help to bring down the coalition clearly wasn't unfounded. There's always a bright side.

The result was disappointing. However, just imagine how uncomfortable that first cabinet meeting afterwards must have been!
