A sweet to whomever guesses the origin of that subject.

Life continues aimless but sunny, with prospects for tomorrow slightly cloudier and a 50% chance of confusion.

Our TA (technical advisor - the nice lady that knows useful things) is planning to leave. This means the TA job will become available. Given that everyone on our team brings tricky problems to me, I ought to be able to get it.

Do I want it? Existing job with extra management crap, but better experience and 40 squid a week more. Plus more authority for when claims adjusters get arsey*.

*twice a week, on average

If I don't go for it, or I don't get it, then I'm going to have to leave. It would be ridiculous to have someone I know is less technically capable as our TA.

So... should I stay or should I go?

This is mostly rhetorical, since you lot don't really know about this.

Job: I'd say go for it. From what you say there is a good chance of you getting it.

I agree, you have a good mind for problem solving and it will look good on your CV :)

Is there anything better out there? Are you thinking about leaving Sheffield at all?
Mum wants to know if you are alive, by the way. Am tempted to visit to check for pulse and brain.

you might as well go for it. Don't use it as an excuse to stop looking for something better (or more bearable) elsewhere but the extra experience, even if it's just a new job title from your point of view, could be useful, and an extra £40 would cover the extortionate rise in next years rent...

Conveniently we are having a party on Friday, where you could indeed visit to check for a bulse and a brain!

Not sure i know what a bulse is. Sounds worrying.
Sadly I will have had my brian implode on Friday since I am spending that day negotiating the boundaries of my new project manager job. They appear to think I can do a 5 day job in 2 days, which may well be flattering but probably won't work.
I shall ring up and gibber at you in lieue of actually having me there, if you attach a pile pile of some esoteric substance to the phone then you probably won't know the difference anyway. I can be stupendously rude/scary to someone, for authenticity.

The joy of Aon / Capita

Hmmmm.....how are things under your new taskmasters? Capita do have a bad reputation, but TBH it'll take a while to weed out all the shitty Aon managers and replace them with shitty Capita managers, so you probably won't tell for a time.

Anyway - your job. As someone who slaved away for peanuts for almost a year at a job I really didn't like but could have got more money for, I reckon you should *definitely* go for it. Any chance to be free of the odious 24/7 is all good, too. Yes, the job is shite but it will give you more experience (always good for Mr CV), more freedom to boss people about :-) and possibly give you opportunities to get different jobs which don't make you want to scream / carve out your brain with a spoon/ shoot people. Oh yes, and THE MONEY!! GO FOR THE MONEY!!!

Fine party, BTW. Most enjoyable. Against pretty much everyone's better judgement, I drank the punch all night - and was completely hangover free!!! Unlike a certain loon in a red coat who drank lots of wine and wanted to die the next day. :-)

That is all.
