aumentouI have had this scary realisation about corp. Its disturbing becase I tink I realised it years ago, but here we go:
It's a sexist institution.
That is to say, its an institution because people go there, and they think its okay to act the way the other people there are acting, simply because thats how it's done.
It's sexist because the men basically go there in jeans and a T-shirt (which is simple and easy and sort of the default option) and they do not try at all to make themselves look good. Meanwhile the women go there wearing PVC shorts or basques or watever - but the key thing is that they put a lot more effort in than the men.
If the women are putting a lot of effort in then we are running into pure sexism - women working harder than men for the same reward.
So the question is really, do I continue going and thus supporting a sexist institution BUT encouraging, by my glam presence, men to make a little more effort, or do I boycott the place and thus deny it my financial support?

Odd dreams Where did this subject come from?
Date: 2003-09-28 10:55 am (UTC)I want to fit in with what everyone else is wearing to some degree, I want to think that I look good, and I want to be completely ridiculous for an evening, and scare townies *grin*. Ok and sometimes I put my tits on a shelf because its nice to be looked at sometimes.
If there are women who dress purely to get the attention of and to please men, well they're being a bit silly. I dont think thats corps fault. I dont think there's any expectation to wear something revealing. There have been times when I havent been arsed and just worn trousers and a vest top and not felt out of place.
I think corp at the minute is attracting a townie contingent, which is bad. but they've been around before and we've scared them off. If you dont want to financially support corp, go afterfink and dont buy any drinks.
