It's one of the signs you're an adult - you stop getting better from things.
You go and see the doctor, and instead of saying "drink this yucky bananananana medicine, and in two weeks you'll be fine" they say "well, basically, we've got no effective treatments, so tough". These are my doctors responses to various questions I've asked, translated from vacilitating medical diplomatic answer into proper english.
"Is there anything I can do about this arthritis lark?
Take painkillers.
Is there anything I can do about getting Migraines, since I had my first one the other day and it got me sent home from work?
No. Treat it like a hangover.
My left ear isn't working. The other doctor said the tube joining it to my mouth was probably blocked by something. That was four years ago. Is there anything I can do about it?
No
My tendons feel all itchy in my wrists. I keep feeling them, and I'm sure they shouldn't draw my attention like that.
*predicted response* Tough.
Seriously, is there much point going in and asking them about it? They'll probably tell me to use the pooter less. Good thought that.
Also, they seem to be sponsored by Nurofen, since they keep recommending it over generic Ibuprofen. Fools.

Date: 2004-09-01 03:19 pm (UTC)And, as regards the pooter - how about one of those wrist rests? If you can get one you can get on with, they can be really useful.
And...where can you see ly-yons?

*cooks that old classic, potato and lard*

Date: 2004-09-02 05:42 am (UTC)As for Migranes, do you jeust get the headace or are you having problems with your sight and nausea as well?
The upside is that they don't happen very often and are usually caused by dehydration.
Best thing to do is on the first sign you're getting one, drink a couple of glasses of water and find somewhere dark away from TV and pooter screens.

I've only had one so far. First my vision was all woozy - little flickers of light kept passing in front of my right eye. I thought it was artificial lights and glasses interracting badly, so I went for lunch early to get some food, fresh(ish) air, and natural light. When I cam back, I felt like I'd been punched in the (left) eye. On close examination, the eye didn't look damaged, but the flesh around it seemed swollen.
It definately wasn't dehydration - I was drinking loads of water as is usual for me at work.

Date: 2004-09-04 07:13 am (UTC)One thing you may find helpful though; when was the last time you had your eyes tested and got new glasses? it may be that your prescription is slightly out and the subsequent strain is causing the migrane.
as for the Heart thing, the original observation was "It shouldn't be doing that", the most recent was "I don't know what the problem is. It's probably benign so don't worry about it. Come back if the symptoms worsen or change."
